New Course: Sustainable Gardening at Home
For the past month or so, a group of local residents have been meeting at Ramat Hanadiv to enrich their knowledge and skills in a subject close to their hearts: the sustainable home garden.
The first class was devoted to learning about each other, becoming familiar with the broad concept of sustainability, and the role ecology plays in it. With the theoretical basis explained, the second class concentrated on the ecological domestic garden and its planning.
The next four meetings will concentrate on the following topics: the organic vegetable garden; compost and its use in the soil; environmentally-friendly fertilizers; and ecological means to prevent damage from pests and disease. The principles of sustainable gardening and a wide range of plant matter will be studied, with practical guidance and advice regarding the observance of shmitta (Sabbatical year).
The course, specially designed for senior citizens, is comprised of six classes with a rich curriculum. It will end in May, 2015. If you qualify and are interested in the topic, you are welcome to leave your contact information here Orit@Ramathanadiv.org.il, and we will be happy to have you join our next course.
